Hamburg -- The doctors of the
Iraq conflict were presented the MEN OF THE YEAR Award on 22 October
in Hamburg, Germany for their heroic efforts to aid the many wounded
civilians, many of them children and whose care helped save
countless lives.
They are the true heroes of the Iraq War: The doctors from Kuwait
and Iraq who risked their own lives to save thousands of others.
Defying the hail of bullets they bravely helped the wounded and due
to lack of medical supplies they had to use ingenuity and
unbelievable expertise to help the injured. Some doctors even
defended their hospitals and patients with weapons. Others like Dr.
Al-Shatti saved children such as the 12-year-old Ali, who not only
lost his whole family but his arms as well. They are the true heroes
of 2003.

held in in Germany.
The WORLD AWARDS were initiated in 2000 by agency chief and
bestselling author (“Der Mann 2000”) Georg Kindel as an integral
part of the worldwide initiative “Men’s World Day”. Men’s
World Day is a global initiative actively supporting social,
humanitarian and charitable causes, while propagating peace and
tolerance. It also is intent on changing the attitudes as well as
the image and roll of men in society. War and violence are still the
domains of men. Mikhail Gorbachev, President of the WORLD AWARDS and
of Men’s World Day expresses it best when he states: “It is
essential to change the moral consciousness of men everywhere to
make our world a better place”.
This year for the first time, in conjunction with the WORLD AWARDS,
an international Peace Conference was held alongside the Awards
ceremony. Experts and international personalities from around the
world participated at the WORLD PEACE CONFERENCE 2003 at Hamburg
City Hall. Among the renowned individuals discussing issues and
themes dealing with a more peaceful world were Hans Dietrich
Genscher, Franz Vranitzky, Lech Walesa, Ole von Beust and Waris
