The Hamad Medical Corporation, State of Qatar, is the sole tertiary care provider in the country. It consists of 3 hospitals-1200 beds and outpatient facilities in over 65 specialties. All Doctors can speak Russian. Russian Medical & Scientific Complex Sahel General Hospital was founded on April 13, 1983, by the efforts of Dr. Fakhry Z. Alame, the Chief Surgeon and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Dr. Alame was assisted by a group of highly qualified physicians and administrators all of whom are graduates of leading American, Canadian, and European Medical and Management schools. The combined efforts of the Board have broadened the scope of our activities and services. It brought the hospital a long way in a relatively short period (inpatient census 12,000 per year and outpatients census stands at about 30,000 per year). Founded with the purpose of serving its community, SGH stands today with its present capacity of 152 beds (long term potential capacity of 225 beds) and as a monument among the crowded southern suburbs of the city of Beirut with services extending to a population exceeding 700,000 and increasing at at rate of 7-8% yearly. Academic Status: Affiliated with the Lebanese University School of Medicine, where it became its BRANCH ONE main campus for a period of 10 years.
